The Reno line of phones from Oppo is a mid-range line that focuses a lot on the camera. The Reno8 and Reno8 Pro are two new phones just released by the company. And today, we’ll talk about which mode is the base mode. The Reno8 5G is an updated version of the Reno7 5G. It has a stunning 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, a Density 1300 Chipset, better cameras, 80W SuperVOOC fast charging, and other features.

There is only one kind of OPPO Reno8 5G. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage phone costs Rs. 29,999. It comes in two colors: Shimmer Black and Shimmer Gold. The phone can be bought online from the OPPO website or Flipkart.

OPPO Reno8 Design and Build
The OPPO Reno8 5G is a stylish smartphone that is only 7.67 mm thick. Oppo has flattened the Reno 8 5G sides to make it look more like other phones. Because of this, it’s easy and comfortable to use with one hand. The corners are curved, so they don’t hurt your hands when using the phone.
I have the Shimmer Black version with me to review, but customers can also look at other color options. The screen is created of Gorilla Glass 5, and the back is made of smooth, shiny plastic. Even though it’s made of plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap when you hold it. Instead, it feels a bit high-end. Since the back has a matte finish, fingerprints don’t stick to it.
The back and side frames are made of a single piece. On the back, however, there is no separate camera unit. Instead, the camera is built into the back panel with elegant curves. The OPPO Reno8 feels light in your hands because it only weighs 179 grams.
OPPO Reno8 Camera
The best thing about the OPPO Reno8 is its camera, so let’s discuss that. On the back of the Reno8, there are three cameras. It has a Sony IMX766 main sensor with 50MP, an ultra-wide-angle lens with 8MP, and a macro sensor with 2MP. There is a 32MP camera on the front for taking selfies.
It’s not a surprise that the main camera does a great job. The photos from the main camera were very clear and showed true colors. The images taken during the day were clear and sharp, with bright colors and a good range of brightness. Without extra brightening, skin tones look like they should, and portraits of people look absolutely stunning.
Even though the main camera doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto lens to take the zoomed shots, the 2x shots look pretty good. The portrait shots are very sharp and have great detail. The colors are still bright, and the blurred effect on the background was done well with good edge detection.
The standard 8mp ultra-wide sensor does a good job, given the price. You get clear sound and a wide range of volume. The lack of auto-focus is a little unsatisfactory, but it’s to be expected at this price. The close-up photos were fine, and the phone rapidly locked on to the subject. But the shots didn’t have enough detail, and the colors didn’t look strong enough.
OPPO Reno8 Charging and Battery
The OPPO Reno8 5G comes with a 4500 mAh battery that can be charged with 80W SuperVOOC. Even though this battery pack is not the largest, it works well. The phone can easily last a whole day with normal use and still have enough power for the next.
I got about six hours with the screen on, which is pretty good for a 4500 mAh battery. I played games, looked at my Instagram feed, watched videos on YouTube, and made a few phone calls. I was also impressed by the fact that the 80W fast charging worked.
And the best part is that, unlike some other companies on the market, OPPO puts the charger in the box with the phone. With the 80W SupreVOOC charger, it takes about 40 minutes for the phone to be fully charged from 0% to 100%. In just 11 minutes, the battery can be charged to about 50%, which is enough for half a day.
OPPO Reno8 Display
The OPPO Reno8 5G has an FHD+ AMOLED screen that is 6.4 inches and has a resolution of 24001080 pixels. The show has a refresh rate of 90Hz, a touch sampling rate of 180Hz, and a peak brightness of 800 nits.
Thanks to the AMOLED panel, the screen looks great. It has deep blacks and bright colors. For a phone that costs 30K, the 90Hz screen might be a letdown for some. But the screen is so smooth and bright that you can use it in direct sunlight.
Also, the screen responds well to touch, and the content is clear and sharp. It has good viewing angles and supports Widevine L1 so you can stream FHD+ content on OTT services.
I watched a few Peaky Blinders episodes on Netflix, which were pretty good. It appears to have pretty thin bezels around the screen, which makes it easy to see, but the chin at the bottom is a bit thick. There’s also an “Eye comfort” mode that cuts down on blue light, which is especially helpful at night.
OPPO Reno8 Performance
The OPPO Reno8 has a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset, 8GB RAM, and 128GB of built-in storage. Every day, the phone works without a hitch. I didn’t think OPPO would make a very good phone, but the Reno8 surprised me.
The Mediatek Dimensity 1300 chipset can run both regular apps and apps that use many resources. Using the RAM expansion feature, you can add up to 5GB more RAM on top of the 8GB you already have. The Reno 8 can handle anything you throw at it with no trouble. I noticed no lags while using the Reno 8, and the apps opened quickly.
When it came to games, the OPPO Reno8 did a great job. I played games like COD Mobile, Apex Legends, and Genshin Impact, which are hard to master. All of the games worked well with settings between medium and high. On High graphics and High frame rate, Call of Duty worked well. Now, I’m not going to say that there were no delays because there were, but they were very small.
OPPO Reno8’s software and user interface
The ColorOS 12.1 skin on the OPPO Reno8 is based on Android 12. ColorOS 12 is better than the ones that came before it. It has a new user interface and animations that move more smoothly. The ColorOS 12.1 interface gives you a lot of ways to customize and make it your own, as well as many useful features.
I’ve seen that the UI works well and doesn’t lag or freeze. The Oppo Theme Store app gives you a lot of ways to customize your phone. You can change the color of the accents to match the color of your wallpaper.
Air Gestures is the name of the new feature that Oppo has added. This feature allows the user to interact with the phone without touching the screen. This feature didn’t work the way I thought it would, and I thought it was just a gimmick.
Conclusion
The Reno8 is a good phone that works well, has a long battery life, and charges quickly. I liked that the 80W SuperVOOC charging was so fast. Aside from this, the 90 Hz AMOLED screen and the many ColorOS 12.1 features are great.
But the number of useless apps that come preinstalled might bother people who like a clean User experience. The lack of OIS does affect how well the camera works, especially when there isn’t much light. Everything else looks great except for these.
